The Devil Whispered in my ear,
“You’re not strong enough to withstand the storm.”
I whispered in the Devil’s ear,
“I am the storm.”
The Presidential election of 2016 is in the history books and a man with few qualifications, questionable mental stability, and a track record for quashing all dissent will now step into the White House. He is #NotMyPresident.
These are dark and uncertain times. If we take Trump at his word, he will repeal the Affordable Care Act, void US commitments to reduce global warming, curtail freedom of the press, deregulate Wall Street, give more tax breaks to the richest 1%, eliminate financial aid for the poorest among us, use deportation forces to hunt down undocumented immigrants, use his DOJ to prosecute Hillary Clinton, purge those who oppose him from the ranks of civil service, and ensure that Roe v. Wade and marriage equality are overturned.
The idea that we owe Trump “a chance” and “an open mind” is ridiculous. This is not a tabula rosa. Over the past months we have seen his lack of self-control (the 3 a.m. Twit fests), the vindictiveness, the documented minute by minute lies, the sexism, the bullying, the admission of sexual assault, the race-baiting and dog-whistles that have been heard loud and clear by the KKK and other haters.
After a day of mourning and fear, I am done with cowering. I will instead use my words and my voice, my money and my time to fight these threats to the safety and sanity of our country. And I am not alone. Thousands of people are protesting Trump. #TheResistance is strong.
Remember: Hillary actually won the popular vote — by a greater margin than Obama did. The deplorables and Trump have won the election, but they will not prevail.
We are the storm.
